Rotary Youth Exchange – DISTRICT 5160

Make a world of difference!

2023-24 UPDATE

Message from Rotary District 5160 Youth Exchange Chair Evan Tuchinsky

Thank you for your interest in Rotary Youth Exchange!

This has been a transitional period for the program in District 5160. In 2022-23, Cubs hosted eight students from overseas — Western Europe, Eastern Europe, South America — and sponsored six Northern California students on exchange in Europe. This summer, three students headed out for the 2023-24 school year, to Europe and Asia.

Rebuilding momentum following Rotary’s pause in the program during the pandemic is a marathon rather than a sprint. We’re gearing up for a full return to normal for 2024-25, when we’re also planning to roll out a Short-Term Exchange Program (STEP) for families and students who would prefer an alternative experience to a full-year exchange.

Several long-time members of the Youth Exchange Committee transitioned to new responsibilities in Rotary, and new members are stepping up to fill the void. Thanks to all of them!

If you’re interested in participating in Youth Exchange — student, host parent, volunteer, committee member — please check out the information on our site here, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

WHY EXCHANGE?
It’s the opportunity of a lifetime!

Exposure to new cultures and customs is a powerful way to promote global understanding and peace. And it’s not just students who benefit – Rotary Clubs and host families do, too.

Although Youth Exchange is administered by the District, a successful exchange depends on the active involvement of Rotarians, their families and the community.

Give a young person the opportunity of a lifetime by participating in Rotary Youth Exchange!
