Every 15 minutes someone dies from an alcohol related accident in the United States. The Every 15 Minutes program engages participants in simulated scenarios that are modeled after real life drinking accidents and include a variety of hands-on activities This two-day program will focus on junior and senior high school students from Armijo, Rodriquez and Fairfield in Fairfield, California. It challenges them to think about drinking, driving, personal safety, the responsibility of making mature decisions, and the impact their decisions will have on family, friends, their community and many others. This program brings together a broad coalition of local agencies with the goal of reducing alcohol related incidents among youth. The partnering of the Highway Patrol, local law enforcement, local hospitals, emergency medical responders, schools, businesses, and service clubs validates the importance of working together to ensure a healthy community. No reimbursement is made to the participating agencies. This project is particularly important now when not only alcohol cause driving fatalities but also new forms of impaired driving such as texting, talking on a phone, or smoking marijuana become more commonplace.
