RotaCare Pittsburg Free Medical Clinic at St. Vincent DePaul provides acute and chronic care to the underserved – uninsured adults. Over the last 11 years, our medical volunteers have served over 13,000 patient visits. During COVID, RotaCare Pittsburg was forced to pivot from a traditional, face to face model to making significant use of “telehealth” services, combined with in person appointments. We have found that offering appointments via Zoom’s secure Medical application, combined with Globus Translation services for our patients who don’t speak English, providing remote monitoring devices to patients, has provided many benefits to both patients and medical providers. Patient benefits – those with limited access to transportation can meet with a licensed medical provider over their phone in the comfort of their home. Being provided with a remote monitoring device allows our providers to monitor patient’s health. Because many patients speak languages other than English, we also provide an “on demand” translation service Provider benefits: Few licensed MDs live in/near Pittsburg, which has always make it difficult for RotaCare to attract new volunteers to drive through 680/Hwy 4 Corridor traffic to volunteer with us. The Telehealth option has made it easier for providers to log in from home or the office via the secure Zoom Medical app and provide healthcare to ourpatients.
