For 2022-2023, the HRC Engineering Club is offering learning opportunities for the youth in our community through for following; (1) a purchase and “build” project to setup and configure a race timing system for use during the RotaCare 5k in October. (2) a series of studies trips to STEM/Maker/Engineering events and venues that will excite and engage the students about “using their hands to build thingsâ€. The HRC Engineering Club is HRC Rotary Club’s education program that provides STEM/maker/engineering & trades skills enrichment education and projects for secondary school age students. The Club is the evolution of the Maker Faire program that was started by HRC Rotarians (Keith Mueller and Estela DePaz) in 2016. In 2022, we plan to have a more robust educational offering including a community service project for the students to learn about radio-frequency identification technology during a “build” project of a race timing system. Besides the build project, we are also planning study trips to STEM related venues for the students to visit in late 2022 to early 2023. Besides providing a learning opportunity to students, having our own race timing equipment will make hosting a 5k race event easier to sustain for our club. We have volunteered to help RotaCare Richmond with their fundraising efforts in October 2023.
