Please meet Juan Esteban Ugarriza, Colombia, Rotary World Peace Fellow, 2005-07, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Medellín, Colombia, District 4280.
Rotary World Peace Fellow Juan Esteban Ugarriza came to the Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution program with a background in journalism and a desire to use his expertise in international political affairs to contribute as an analyst and advisor for peace processes at the global level.
Now that he has completed his studies at the University of North Carolina, he is well on his way. Mr. Ugarriza works for the Ideas for Peace Foundation (www.ideaspaz.org), a private institution founded in 1999 by private sector leaders in Colombia. The Foundation is dedicated to research and implement projects related to conflict resolution. With the Foundation, Mr. Ugarriza supports negotiation rounds between companies, unions, and NGOs on voluntary guidelines for the private sector to operate in conflict zones.
