Governor Nominee 2013

Governor Nominee Steve Lack

Governor Nominee Steve Lack

“I am deeply honored and looking forward to serve you as District Governor in 2013-14.”

Steve joined Rotary in 2002 after his nomination for membership by Pleasant Hill Rotarian Jim Alkire, former City Manager of Pleasant Hill. In 2005-2006 he had the privilege of serving as Pleasant Hill’s Club President, which helped prepare him for the role of Assistant District Governor for the seven Diablo Valley Clubs (aka “The Magnificent Diablo 7”) which he filled for two years, 2007 and 2008.

Subsequently, in 2009 he served as District Newsletter Editor. Rather than publish a single monthly District Newsletter, Steve published 10 area newsletters monthly using content from the clubs throughout the District, in order to deliver news of local interest to each area. This year he is serving as the Chair (aka Merlin) for “Rotary Magic” – the District Conference in Monterey October 7-9, 2011. During 2010-11 Steve is also serving as the first District Disaster Preparedness Team Leader helping each of our clubs become better prepared to respond to local disasters that occur in our own areas.

Born in Los Angeles in 1954, he grew up in Beverly Hills “90210” California and obtained B.S. and M.A. Public Administration from the University of Southern California and a PhD from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. In 1980 Steve was appointed as a Presidential Management Fellow in Washington, D.C. and, later, worked at the Health Care Financing Administration. In 1985, he entered the field of law enforcement as a Special Agent for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Following a rewarding and successful career investigating Medicare fraud and recovering over $375 million in stolen funds to Uncle Sam, in 2010 he retired from full-time employment.

He met his wife Wendy when they were both attending USC. They have been married for 33 years. They are very proud of their two daughters, Jessica (currently a PhD candidate in Neuroscience at UC Irvine) and Amanda (a junior at Hillsdale College in Michigan).

“Together, I’m looking forward to making more “Rotary magic” with you!”
