Governor Elect - 2012

District Governor Nominee Laura Day

District Governor Elect Laura Day

“Rotary service comes in many forms. One of those is helping others realize their dreams. We are all in a position to change people’s lives for the better through Rotary. What greater gift is there? And when we help others, we too reap rewards.”

In 1994, Rotarian Bill Gregory had a vision about an evening club in the San Ramon area. Laura Day’s sponsor Sandy Lineker suggested to her that being a business owner in town meant joining Rotary. So she did. She became a Charter member of the San Ramon Valley Rotary Club. She’s proudly served numerous Club Committee positions, Club President in 1998-99 under Paul Fisher as District Governor. About that time, Rotarians Gretchen Peralta and Cecil Padilla were championing a home host project and offered them an opportunity to home host the incoming Governor of Sweden and Russia. Now they were hooked on the International of Rotary.

In 1999, PDG Ron Piret asked Laura to serve as an Area Rep and head up his District Assemblies. From there, she served 10 Governors in many different capacities, from PDG Susan Wait’s training assemblies to Mark von Hoetzendorff’s Bavarian Bash Fundraiser, to Assistant Governor for PDGs Connie Crawford, Mike Garver, Brian Thiessen and Candy Pierce, then as Lt. Governor for Stan Smalley and on Jim Campbell’s calendar committee.

Immediate Past Governor Earl Kilmer asked her to lead his District Training Team. It was his mentoring and friendship that inspired her to run for Governor. Current Governor Karl Diekman signed Laura on for another year. From here, she looks forward to meeting more Rotarians from the wonderful clubs of District 5160.

Born in a Chicago suburb in 1959, Laura grew up in Pleasanton CA. She graduated from San Jose State with a major in Psychology and a minor in Shopping. She has 27 years in the insurance business, the last 17 as owner of an insurance agency dedicated to training and developing insurance agencies. Her wonderful husband of 29 years, Dan, is a geologist/corrosion engineer who loves his professional work and his volunteer work. Dan loves Rotary and cherishes all of the friends he has made through Rotary.

Laura has been working very hard in Rotary and will continue to do so, because the Rotarians and Clubs of District 5160 deserve the very best in their leadership.
